Configuring BIG-IQ (TRG-BIQ-CFG)

 

Course Overview

This course uses lectures and hands-on exercises to give participants real-time experience in configuring and using the BIG-IQ® product.

The course is divided into two parts. Part 1 covers topics for administering BIG-IQ in order to manage BIG-IP devices. Part 2 covers topics related to managing BIG-IP product modules with BIG-IQ. Select individual topics based on your particular interest and class requirements. Note: Not all topics in Part 2 may be selected for the same scheduled class as there is not enough time to cover all topics in 2 days.

Prerequisites

This course covers how to manage BIG-IP and its associated products using BIG-IQ. It is expected that students have a working knowledge of the BIG-IP products managed through BIG-IQ before attending this class.

Students must complete one of the following F5 prerequisites before attending this course:

  • F5 Certified BIG-IP Administrator

The following general network technology knowledge and experience are recommended before attending any F5 Global Training Services instructor-led course:

  • OSI model encapsulation
  • Routing and switching
  • Ethernet and ARP
  • TCP/IP concepts
  • IP addressing and subnetting
  • NAT and private IP addressing
  • Default gateway
  • Network firewalls
  • LAN vs. WAN

Course Objectives

  • Perform an initial setup, license, and provision of a BIG-IQ system
  • Administer and monitor the BIG-IQ system
  • Manage BIG-IP LTM devices using BIG-IQ
  • Create, deploy, monitor, and report on BIG-IQ configuration changes
  • Create, deploy, monitor, and report on managed BIG-IP device configuration changes
  • Undertake various troubleshooting of the BIG-IQ functionality
  • Perform an initial setup, license, and provision of a BIG-IQ Data Collection Device (DCD)
  • Create custom roles to manage BIG-IP configuration objects at a more granular level
  • Prepare and deploy BIG-IP applications based on custom templates
  • Manage BIG-IP ASM devices using BIG-IQ
  • Create, deploy, monitor and report on BIG-IP ASM Application Security Policies
  • Redirect and examine ASM events via the BIG-IQ DCD facility
  • Manage BIG-IP AFM devices using BIG-IQ
  • Create, deploy, monitor and report on BIG-IP AFM network firewall configurations
  • Configure and deploy BIG-IP AFM DoS configurations
  • Manage BIG-IP DNS devices using BIG-IQ
  • Detect, monitor, and report on BIG-IP DNS objects
  • Remotely manage and monitor BIG-IP devices configured in a cluster
  • Configure and de-configure BIG-IQ systems in a High Availability pair

  • An overview of the BIG-IQ product set and its approach to managing BIG-IP devices.
  • Administering the BIG-IQ system and its facilities
  • Managing BIG-IP Devices using Application Templates
  • Managing BIG-IP LTM devices through their discovery and the subsequent central control and deployment of product objects used on these devices
  • BIG-IQ and managed BIG-IP device troubleshooting steps
  • BIG-IQ and managed BIG-IP device monitoring and reporting facilities
  • The installation and setup of a BIG-IQ Data Collection Device (DCD)
  • Logging and examining BIG-IP LTM events via the BIG-IQ DCD
